The late great Charlie Gall is shown here with the Hot Five Jazzmakers. The date was September 24th 1994 and we were at our regular Saturday matinee at "C'est what?" in downtown Toronto.
Graham Scriven, who was on vacation from England, was on drums, joining Charlie Gall - trumpet; Janet Shaw - alto-sax; Brian Towers - trombone; Colin Bray - string bass and Rainer Hunck - banjo.
The camera is quite far back and there is a lot of crowd noise. I kicked it off a little bit too fast but it really cooks along, with hot solos from Jan and Charlie.
Just a couple of weeks ago, we were playing at Charlie's funeral. It is good to be able to remember him in this way.
