We unveiled our Autumn Winter 2009 collection as a digital installation during New York Fashion Week; The Empress of the Orient.
Inspired by the opulent works of Poiret and Beardsley, our Empress has collected her treasures from travels down the Silk Route and exotic memories of the Orient.
The collection combined elements of both East and West in its varied color palette, silhouettes, and detailing. A rich infusion of color and texture, it contains shades of bordeaux, red currant, ochre, cobalt, navy, charcoal, and ocean with highlights of gold.
The most varied collection to date, fabrics range from textured silk jacquards, printed stretch satin, lace organza, beaded fringing, tulles, crepe jersey, fine cashmere, printed goatskin and buttery soft leather to an array of luxurious silks. The bold oriental Rosebud print is manipulated into voluminous modern shapes including a quilted rabbit trimmed jacket. Tailoring is given a twist with origami style pleats and folded details. The stretch brocade jacquard fabric hugs the body in a range of corset inspired shapes. Zips are featured throughout the collection in trousers as well as tailored dresses and Black Label pieces.
Leopard printed goatskin gillets, tailored harem style jodhpurs and rose appliquéd knitwear offer exciting and more directional daywear. A great emphasis is placed on compelling must have separates, as well as an array of perfect little black dresses. Signature graphic intarsia is updated with knitted pom poms, while an overtly sexy stretch corset knit has French lace inserts and features zips.
Complementing the ready to wear in inspiration, color and construction, the accessories range continues to expand and diversify. Comprised of luxurious skins and novelty leathers such as a signature printed snakeskin, the bags are accented with exclusive, bold metal ware. A range of decorative belts continues to be a strong part of the collection, ranging from corset styles to bold printed leopard waist belts. From slouchy hobos and pleated day bags edged with gold to luxurious jet studded evening bags, the collection is unique yet functional as well as being beautifully conceived and crafted.
The Black Label Collection is increasingly more opulent with golden studs running up dresses and along straps, large crystals and metallic threads embroidered into flowers and three dimensional petal details making this a highly intricate and sophisticated collection of eveningwear. Both modern in embellishment and timeless in design, the dresses include elaborate drapes, pleating and Grecian gathers offset with strategically placed embellishments focused around the neck.
An antidote to fast-made, fast-burn fashion, value is placed on fine details and luxurious fabrics. Although the collection is more directional in its Orient influence, it still remains quintessentially Temperley in its unabashed femininity and versatility.
