Victor Gao, the former translator of China's great reformer, Deng Xiaoping says he is not worried about China achieving 8 per cent growth in 2009, but about the quality of that growth.

Saying he is worried if the money, most of which will be spent on infrastructure projects, will generate enough return.

But he emphasises the key challenge is to do everything possible to pull the country out of slow economic growth.

  • I have been to China. Deng Xiaoping is well respected there, even though Mao's picture is more commonly displayed. Mao is more like a treasured show piece you know. Deng Xiaoping made things happen, his is the blood that runs through the Chinese veins. Why do you hate him?

  • nickvanzetti - Without Deng Xiopeng, China wouldn't be a rising economic power of today and millions have been lifted out of poverty. I will represent 2 billions Chinese friends around the world throw you a double middle finger.

  • @82abhilash Yep, Mao united China but his later rein was tragic. His wife took control and China then was painful. Deng on the other hand changed and developed China and made China what they are today.

  • Deng Xiaoping rules!

  • like bulid one partment,Mao ze dong bought the land and Deng xiao ping designed it,chinese people build it.

  • To get rich really is GLORIOUS aka in China as "Fatten your wallet as much as you want but shut up"

  • Ideologially or economically? One positive is china has enough money to gobble up Western miners and buy resources on the cheap. But generally there is a negative side there too.

  • It is true !Death capialism!
