Moldmaking and casting: PT Flex Wrench prop

But seriously... This is a prop wrench cast using PT Flex 60 pigmented with PolyColors. We used a 73-25 silicone mold made from an actual pipe wrench. The mold was made using new ultra low viscosity 73-25 silicone. A 2 part mold was made using 2500 mold release as a seperator. 73-25 is a platinum silicone so it does not shrink and it captures detail on a molecular level. 73-25 may be used to cast resin, foams, or urethane rubbers.

Question: Would this be close to the foam material they use in the Nerf Axes and swords? I need a foam that is flexible but forms a skin that can be painted.

@2DayWithPatrickJ There are several ways to get a part like that. The best way to get a good skin on a complicated part is to slosh the PT Flex around in the mold 1st and follow it up with a flexible foam. We have some new foams that have a thick skin, but anytime you paint a urethane it will be tricky!

Hey first of all thank you for the great video, it's hard to find some decent stuff on this type of casting.

I was just wondering if there is a way to get the rubber stiffer by itself (without the use of something like the coathanger inside). I'm just starting with rubber casting and it's very hard to find some decent info.

@Schoonbeek83 If this prop is to be used in a fight scene you don't want it to be too stiff throughout, hence the coat hanger core. If you want a stiffer material we have other harder rubber materials in this series as well as hard plastics. They are all listed on our webstore.

@brickintheyard I am looking to make some props to use in martial art, but even the pt flex 85 seems to soft. Is there anything you might know of that I could use?

@Schoonbeek83 When you pass 95 on the "A" scale you are going to be limited to fairly rigid plastics.

I have a set of Mandalorian armor I made by cutting and heating a PVC pipe, but I'd like to copy all the plates out of a firm but flexible material. This PT Flex looks like it'd be the right stuff, my only concern is that it may be too floppy- however I would be gluing the plates onto a vest. Which number of PT Flex would you recommend?
