This song was supposed to be a fast upbeat song but I did this "spur of the moment" take as more of a slow burn. The song has to do with my father and mother who a long time ago got on a big ship and brought their family over to America. In fact, you can see a photograph of the ship in this vid. The song is done live, vid is thrown together equally as haphazardly. The lyrics are not meant to be biographical but do have references to the fact that my father fought in the World War and was captured by the Japanese. The line "they won't kill you on a holiday" was taken from different accounts of world war 2 vets who mentioned in their accounts that Japanese holidays were the best times in the pow camps because no one would be punished or even worse killed because it was basically a "day off"- the notion of my dad "putting away his bullets and his guns" is not so much a statement on him having guns in a personal way but more of the notion of him putting the war behind him and dreaming of a life elsewhere.

Nice song delivered in an interesting voice. David of Sanctuary1952 sent me this and it was well worth a listen too. Well done.

A song about concentration camps, immigrating to far away lands and standing by someone you love.
