Just for the record. He's not using a cut capo. It's a regular capo that isn't pushing down the low E string. This gives him the ability to strum all the way through all 6 strings. The only thing that sounds different when playing this way is the Em (relative to the capo) Because playing capo 2nd fret, it's actually an F#m. And you don't have the capo pushing down this note. Hope this helps.
