  • @soccer23m because water is a product of this reaction and it is exothermic so the heat changes the resulting water into steam and also boils off some of the water in the aqueous (assuming one is not using 100% H2SO4) solution. the steam escaped unless you trap it resulting in less mass when you measure it, but if you trap the steam and measure the mass of all the products it obeys the law of conservation of mass. hope this helped.
