this is just to clarify the different types of knots you can use to overcome the problem of fat trees and the use of the garda hitch! its really down to you... just make sure itll take your weight and dont be complacent!

  • What is the weight of that set up?

  • @223rocks the aditional parts come up to about 300gms. its not a light weight solution and never intended as such. just quick and easy.

  • avoid all these steps and also get a multi of figurations and leangths by using a set of eno slap straps and a couple caribiners. they add a possible extra 6 feet to your possible distance and with 4 or 5 set loops, your always with in range

  • @PHARRAOH appreciate the idea. dont like slap straps and i am a climber/mountaineer so have rap rings and have karabiners already so will continue to use those. this is merely a solution if the garda hitch doesnt work. i prefer the garda hitch to any other method regardless. tried and tested as a jungle guide for years....

  • Do you know what shops sell these in London?

  • @gooberspace not in london. needle sports in the lake district sells them, i bought mine online from them and it arrived in a few days. great service.

  • .....or if used with garda hitch they tend to squish the fibers flat?

  • great suspension ideas, thanks. What cordage do you suggest with this? Im thinking of using amsteel but i've read they dont hold knots that well.

  • cmmmon... its too complicated, much easier is to go conventional way original ropes only, no metals, need 2 learn only Bowline knot on one end, and the knot shown on hammock's cover on another end!

  • Just use a quick release siberian half hitch!
