I feel that one mf my most bitter sweet moments was the day I learned how to press and flat iron my own hair. Due to this fact, i would thin and damage my hair out with over styling and over heating. I constantly found my self cutting inches off my hair a couple of times a year. This time, at the end of the school year in May 2010, I cut my hair the shortest it's ever been, neck length (sorry, no pics). In the beginning of summer 2010, I was too broke to get my hair professionally done and I dreaded the thought of pressing and flatironing my own hair so I decided not to do anything and I just washed m hair and placed it in a bun. I was pleased with not needing to add heat to my hair so I looked into half wigs that I seen my sister wear from time to time. That curiosity led to a whole summer full of half wigs and buns. I know now that I was wearing my hair in protective styles. After three months i was pleased to see that my hair grew to about shoulder length. My sister told me about the natural hair journeys she watched on youtube and I took a look for myself and was pleasantly surprised at the movement that was taking place. I was not aware that so many people have abandoned the chemicals and minimized the suse of straightners, and have fully embraced their natural hair. Although I never had a perm, my hair was heat damaged due to constant heat being applied ritually. So now, after many, many hours spent on youtube learning valuable information about the science of black hair, I have adopted my own hair regimen and let go of the pressing comb; however I still use the plug in flatiron. So here's a video showing my progress from late August/September 2010 to October 2011. Sorry for the super long description. Hope you enjoy
