  • Yep definately 1990 because first gen (84-89) was basically a toyota pickup witha fiberglass roof still the 80s 4runners weren't bad they were acxtually quite good but yeah i like the 90s 4runners better! :)

  • The commercial aired in 1989, but it is for the 1990 model. The year I include in the title is the date the commercial aired only.

  • I think the 1st generation was better, simply because of the removable top and solid axles..

  • 00:29 is hilarious, the guy made the corny "jump and pause"

  • Did they put the CD in the wrong way?

  • @firebird890 actually, they switched to the second generation 4 door style in mid-89, there are some 4 doors that really are 89's, so this could definitely be one. I know because i have an 89 first gen, and i always have to say its an 88 when i get parts otherwise they will give me second gen ones that dont fit if i tell them 89.

  • Just brought an 91 sr5 today it's red with brownish windows

  • that is my exact 4runner! color, spare tire carrier and everything!

  • Labeled vid wrong . They put this grill into the 89 pickups and started that style on the 4 runners in 90.

  • Song doesn't really go with the car. The 4Runner sounds like an angry monster. The song is a soothing "Toyooooootaaaa"

  • I love this car. It's as old as I am and it's still working very well. Unfortunately, it is a gas hog and, after 20 years, it's starting to show its age. The new 4Runners are pussy wagons (no offense to the fans of those). I'm really going to miss manually shifting the gears.

  • Ohhh -- V6 power. How could one resist?

  • @WobblingHobGoblin I have one and I would say the same. Mine is an 88

  • The 84-85 1st gen 4runner had the stock SFA, both the 4runner and pickup switched to hi-trac IFS in 86...
