The secret weapon Conservatives are using to take down public universities in America. Conservatives are arming up for their war on public universities, trying to de-fund them, destroy them, and replace them with for-profit colleges. Think it's impossible? They did the same thing during the Reagan years with our national system of non-profit hospitals, which have nearly all now been replaced with for-profit hospitals, which is a large part of why our healthcare costs are soaring and hospital executives are suddenly multimillionaires. So the war is on to destroy our state colleges and promote more for-profit colleges. And their primary weapon of choice ISN'T budget cuts to education or tax breaks to for-profit universities. No - their primary weapon of choice is frames.

Well said Thom. Anyone who attends those for-profit universities quickly learn that reality for example, if they decide to transfer schools. Then they find their credits are only valid at said school.

I agree with a majority of what was said, strongly. The pretext, however, is misleading. I am against undue privatization & abuse of institutions that work best as presently are. His rant about gun control, however, was oddly placed at best.

We have a right to own & use guns, safely. States with the most stringent gun control laws see no significant decrease in crime once gun control measures are enacted. All it ensures is the disarmament of the American people and of law abiding citizens.

Your analogy of the gun issue facetious. You DON'T hear about the uses of guns for self defense because THEY ARE NOT REPORTED. If you scare a criminal off with a gun, it never gets reported. Only the stories of guns causing deaths within the home and accidental shootings are reported. So the reporting is skewed and due to our liberal gun hating media. I will also give you the one good reason why guns are NOT controlled in this country..THE 2ND AMENDMENT of the CONSTITUTION. Now, get over it.

There is a leviathan sized, private, for-profit leech attached to our society-- at all levels-- which pretends to be the only good and moral solution to all the woes and wrongs it claims we have with one another, our governance and the world as a whole; but beyond all its gaudy masks and fun house mirrors and catchy jingles and talking points it's nothing but an insatiable business model (monster) designed to shuttle the wealth and power of the many into the hands of the self-selected few.

    Guns are our right!

Putting "guns" and for "profit schools" in the same arguement is skewed!

Why not argue the point that we may have to many laws, that are imprisoning too many people, which is driving us into a state of survival, instead of prosperity.

So long as you argue against guns, your standing for corporations.

Who knows, we, as a people, may have to stand against some of the corporations soon, that have seemly bought our way of law, and mis used it for their own greedy ambitions.

I'll be sure to do that, thanks. Russia Socialism was total, with no votes or input from it's citizens. Having socialist programs but being a capitalist country I think strengthens the ability to sustain it's power and ability to care for their citizens. The War-imperialism is not a liberal agenda, and a large portion of the deficit spending is on the very Wars you are referring to. I don't know anything about California schools, so you got me there. I'll check out the book.
