They release the balloon with 15 seconds interval, it's normal that the balloon stick together for the 15 minutes the flare burn.

As for flares forming triangles and lines, I meant, if they weren't tied up. I don't know if they were tied up or not but how they got it to form into certain shapes and lines is interesting. Were they tied together by a long piece or rope?
