Super Fast P-61 Black Widow a WWII era aircraft. To see building details go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxVvd4GVZ_k
P-61's were the first purpose built US Night Fighters. Operating in Europe, Mediterranean, Pacific and China Burma theatres P-61's were primarily black however a few squadrons used Olive Drab until gloss black was finaly determined to work best at night. P-61's are credited with the last kills of the war and near the end were also dominating daytime fighter bombers. One specific event involved Pacific POW's. Fearing the Guards may shoot the prisoners a lone P-61 kept strafing the prison camp and doing ariel manuevers causing the guards to hide long enough for the POW's to be rescued by Raiders.

  • Thanks for the comment - i may do that considering the way you worded your request

  • With all due respect to the builders and fliers of these planes, would you please label your vids as R.C. flights? I was hoping to see a real P-61 again. This is just disappointing.

  • Here is the thing boys - there are no real full scale versions of this thing flying anywhere. Additionally because it was a top secret night fighter there is virtually no video of it flying at all. In fact there are less than 5 left in the world and none are flying.

One is under rebuild in PA but its a long way off - so the only versions flying today are models - this one is the closest to the real thing you will probably ever see - so full scale or not - sit back and enjoy -

  • @RushBuzzing sir if you are interested in seeing a true p-61 black widow i would be happy to tell you that the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum of Reading, Pennsylvania is currently in the process of restoring one of these beautiful birds to 100% flying condition. check it out at maam(dot)org.

  • @ZacKramer Yes thank you - this is the P-61 in PA I was talking about, it is under reconstruction, but still not flying yet. At this link maam(dot)org you can see the actual aircraft this model was built to respect -

During the flight of this video one of the actual test pilots who flew the F-15A Reporter version was standing by and providing advice on flying characteristics. You can look him up Co. Robert_E._Thacker

  • One of the more well known missions was during the invasion of the Philippines a lone P-61 flew strafing and aero maneuvers over an Japanese Prison camp distracting the guards while a rescue mission was conducted. Its possible that squadron was from Mindano.

  • wtf i wanted the real thing

  • Know what? If you search out OV-10, you'll see a plane that, without armament most of the time, resembles the P-61 quite a bit.

  • More RC crap...save that for the kids' you tube.

  • @AZRC001

I have zero interest in toys.

  • @ZacKramer Thank you, I'll definitely bend my efforts toward getting there.

  • If anyone wants to see the real P-61 plane being restored, check out Mid Atlantic Air museums site. They are well on their way to having it flying. It will be the only one. Last I saw the electrical systems were being installed. It's not that far off if they keep at her.

  • It's a bloody model . thumbs down.
