The Garfield Redevelopment Project took place in Middletown, Ohio in the 1960s. The city was an industrial hub since the 19th century, but the industry of Middletown had become land locked due to an increase in residential development. Under the Housing Acts of 1949 and 1954, the Middletown government enacted eminent domain by acquiring 50 acres of residential land. They used this land to prepare a new industrial park by evicting the residents and destroying their homes. The families were given public housing, while their previous land became the James A. Garfield Industrial Park. Today the land is mostly brown fields and grey fields, eagerly waiting for a phoenix-like rebirth from its own ashes.
