Paul and James are talking about 2 different things when they each use the term "works". Paul is talking about works of the Law, James is talking about good deeds.

@EWETUBER2 Jesus and his followers had "Pharistiical tendencies". Pharisees believed in the physical resurrection of the body, they de-emphasized the temple, they had a more figurative interpretation of the Torah, they were oriented more toward the common people. It's no surprise that Paul was also a Pharisee.

Well you are aware that JESUS is the son of God the Father in Heaven..Jesus was NOT the actual son of a carpenter..

@KayBeeEee1983 Not according to scripture..The scriptures rule all that out..BTW scripture is not given to teach about the sexual life of Mary..so whether she did or didn't have children after she FIRST had jesus is illrelivant to the discussion..

James proved that HE had as much ubderstanding of the meaning of the Greek word PISTEO..as many Christians today have...zero..! The Demons do not place their FAITH in God they REBELLED against God and still rebel against him. Not so with Christians..we place our FAITH in God..which is much much more than just "believe that God exists"..! See the difference..?

@EWETUBER2 Why couldn't James be a blood brother of Jesus? Mary had other children besides Jesus, right?
Matthew 13:55 - "Then they scoffed, 'He's just the carpenter's son, and we know Mary, his mother, and his brothers--James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas.' "
I wish people would cite the bible verse when they say things like "scripture proves". It's not hard to write "Matthew 13:55" or whatever.

Notice they always stop at that verse and do not continue on to find out what FAITH meant to James..James 2:18 and 19 are critical to understaning that James' idea of what FAITH is..was in error. James thought that BELIEF and FAITH were synonyms..and he used them in that context when in fact FAITH is not the same as BELIEF. The Demons do NOT have FAITH in God all they have is BELIEF. Belief that God exists is not FAITH in God. Thus James was in error scriptually to say what he did.

4:00 The woman speaking has no clue to what James said at all..which BTW is the current state of most of Christianity today..When James said James 2:19..he showed right there that he had no understanding whatsoever of what FAITH is to God. James then goes on to MISQUOTE the Genesis account of Abraham..that Paul rightly quotes in Gal 3:6 and Rom 4.

3:17 I'd say that GALATIANS is the most influential letter..It is single handedly the "freedom" letter to the church. It is the Declaration of Independence so to speak..of all Christianity. Romans was the calmer more thought out methodical letter. Galatians contains within it the fire in the belly speech..that comes from the soul of a man who has just been set free by God. You can not be an inteligent person in this world without understanding Galatians.
Very interesting episode, I did not even know about this book. By the way, are you going to do some episodes on the apocrypha, too?

@FnordPerfect: You didn't know about the book of James yet you know what the apocrypha is? :)
I don't know if we'll do them or not... I'd really like to, but we may run out or time and resources... The priority is doing the standard 66 books first, then we'll see how we're placed?
