  • you don;t have time to step back and if you do step back it will not look as good as with this prep and that is from a guy point of view; try to use your brains and figure a style of dancing and doing spinns not limited to what you learn in classes. you get the signal on 123 and that is it you go spinning, in real world you don;t even have time to step the second count.

  • I also don't understand it. What is the rationale for bring the foot forward on 1? I initially thought that is was from the preceding 8 count, but no! Preceding 7 the RF is forward but on the 8,1 your RF is already back. It's easier to just start off on the 2 by sitting into the prep.

  • there is a dfference on spins en La and NY ;)

  • This video provides very clear and usefull information regarding spinning. It is important to keep in mind that the video may provide instruction based on a specific style. Still I find it usefull to develop a skill and that adapt it to your reality. Dancing On-1 and On-2 is very different, however the spin itself is similar in its technique. Please try to look past the petty details. It is not easy to try to explain this technque for every type of salsa style, as there are many!!!

  • I am a salsa LA instructor and i do not get what she is trying to say

  • I think the variation comment is true. I teach On - 1 and we step back on the 1. I also trained ON-2, so I understand what she is trying to convey by calling it the "NY prep", it just is not completed on 2. Also, some people find that it is easier to start multiple spins with a center base not inclusive of the first step Back ON-1. I guess, it is preference.

  • I tried Santo Rico already and no way I can do it, maybe I need a new brain to spin :( BTW, isn't one of the rules of salsa not to move the same foot twice unless you're tapping like in Cuban style ????

  • i saw followers making step forward with the right foot all the time, it looks cute and i never could figure out what it was...now it helps...

  • Bad Technique

  • I took a class from her once and she showed the "new york prep" this way. I think this is her variation for spinning on1.

Cause, the "new york prep" would normally be done on2, so she added the step forward.
