My second public performance for crit by my friends and teachers
Thankyou to Mary for Filming xx
Music by Beirut - Gulag Orkestra
Amon Tobin -At the end of the Day
The whole first song and over half of the second is all improv - i took Samantha Emanuel's (formerly Hasthorpe) advice and went for improv early on. I wasn't intending to do that much in one go but being poorly in the run up left me with no choice as i wasn't well to do more than 15 mins a day for the few weeks before - so choreo went out the window.
There are a few things i am drilling to correct already - my exterior hip circle wasn't smooth or tucked enough and i need to be careful not to rush some of the horizontal hip moves such as fig 8 backwards. I need to crisp up some of the isolation and give the moves more room to be, before i layer eg chest work over the top too. I need to get my head going infront of some of the spins instead of being pulled behind.
I think i am crowding the music at points but this is the first time i've actually seen myself dance so when i choreo next i'll be taking that into account.
The posture will just take time it'll be another year at least before my physio reckons i'll have corrected the damage caused by the wheelchair and the M.E. But hey the neck isn't sticking out quite as far as it did!
You can see the points where i have no idea what i'm going to do next and experience will just smooth that out i hope.
I am pretty pleased with my arms, and i made my goals of connecting to the music and the audience and enjoying myself - so it was a win for me. It's a bit difficult to see my face now it's need uploaded but It was a small crowd and i made eye contact with everyone i could see including those right at the back and i had a really positive reponse from the crowd after - the best being a little 6 year old girl who followed me about and told me i looked like a princess when i danced - so sweet!
I managed not to panic and cover up their cd player causing the track to skip!!! Right on a bit where i was doing hip work on the beat really obviously - sods law!!!
BTW the second performance i did that night was to a New Your Doom band called Unsane - TOTALLY different - no footage of that tho. Way less pretty and a lot more Ra!
mmm doom music yummy chocolate for my ears....
Any constructive comments will be greatfully recieved. Please remember i am only a beginner and a broken bird - so some things my legs just aren't strong enough for yet - eg level changes - but hey this time last year i couldn't get up out of a chair without help about 80% of the time so i'm pretty chuffed!
3 weeks on and i am really broken - i did way too much and triggered a relapse - housebound, back in the wheel chair and bored for over 2 weeks - oh well at least i can watch me being able to move about dancing - the biggest lesson i learned from all of this was pacing and managing my energy and activities in a far stricter way so i can do more without getting the housebound after effect, by lowering my goals and slowing down the process. I must remember i'm not normal - cue falling about laughing for anyone who has met me :)
Thankyou for taking the time to watch

The beautiful yorkshire rose pointed out i fell into a moving backwards and forwards rut. She's right i need to practice different ways to move accross the stage so when i'm improv'ing i din't repeat the same patterns - :) - still learning x
