In this show we build a budget effects rig, bring you the latest news from across the fretterverse, pick up some sweep picking tips from Mike Alexander, and speak to producer, Dave Carlyon, as he shows us how to effectively use amp simulation in Pro Tools.

  • Hahah looks like you had fun here - especially liked the news......... :-)

Could have mentioned that a cheaper way to get started with pedal rigs are multi fx units which don't all have to be crappy Zoom things.....

  • @philipkors Also, does the pod come with crowd cheers like Guitar Hero does?

  • @philipkors

You can't be serious about line6 sounding nicer than the English Muff'n, even you can see that? The pod is a toy, nothing more, ask ANY guitarist if they prefer valve or solid-state overdrive over the Pod or the Digitech hothead. If you have ever stood on a stage and played through a real amp, you'd know what it feels like. A pod says 'this is what an AC30 sounds like" you plug in an AC30 and it says "this is what an AC30 IS".

  • @philipkors I wasn't expressing logic, just opinion! But you have shown a fundamental misunderstanding of the differences between digital distortion, and solid state distortion. So by my 'logic' no, a HT5 would not be 'better' than the RR1. Also here's a little quote for you from Lance Keltner: "The RR1 is a 100 watt Solid State Amp. Don't let that put you off...it does not sound like one."

The key is that is sounds like valve but with solid state reliability. And you don't have to thank me!

  • @WattsUpShow by the same logic a blackstar ht5 sounds better than a retro channel RR1, because it has tubes in it

also, the blackstar ht distortion pedals sound better than wamplers distortion pedals pedals, because they have tubes in them

and of course vox tonelab pedals sound better than the pod hd, because there are tubes in them

thanks for teaching me that something with valves is always better than something without valves

    /sarcasm

  • @philipkors Whilst I am a big fan of the POD stuff (we have a DT25 review coming up), to say that Line 6's digital distortion is better than Elecroharmonix's valve distortion makes us weep. I know some good people you can talk to if you ever want to discuss your sonic impotence, and I extend my shoulder to cry on if you ever wish to just have a little cry about it.

    Lots of love,

    Rich :)
