Fatwa to Kill Every Israeli in Egypt

[Update, 28 Sep: A small correction in the transcript--at the end of the first line it should read, "to carry their coffins with their own hands."]

Last month Dr. Salah Sultan, a member of Yusuf al-Qaradawi's International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) and the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, declared on al-Jazeera that the IUMS would restore the fatwa they issued in 1994, which stated that "every Zionist who enters Egypt--tourist or not--should be killed."

Despite the importance of this fatwa for Egyptian-Israeli relations, this unfortunately received little attention in Western press. MEMRI did publish a short excerpt of the statements, but I believe there is more in Salah's comments that we should be aware of, namely that this is not about mere retaliation for Israelis supposedly killing Egyptian officers, but rather it is about the desire to destroy Israel altogether.

Having spoken with several American Copts, not just read the news, this parlous state is very real indeed. The vital thing is to generate sufficient support for the Copts to permit emigration to prevent murder. Perhaps others will read this and write their Senators, as I have done.

@helloworld459 In the case of Afghanistan, it became proper secondary to the destruction of our World Trade Center towers on 11 September 2001. As for Iraq, that's a very complex misadventure. Mr. Saddam Hussein possessed neither biological, nor chemical, nor nuclear weapons. What occurred there was assuredly wrong; there's no mistake about that. Thank heavens the US is leaving both countries. The killing in general is Sunni Muslims killing Shiite Muslims and vice versa.
