In Part 1 of WBFF-TV FOX 45's cover story "Haiti: Mission of Hope," Jennifer Gilbert and Darren Durlach report on the University of Maryland Medical Center's ongoing relief efforts to help the Haitian people recover from the devastating earthquake that shook the country in January 2010. This ongoing mission is a partnership with Catholic Relief Services, the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and St. Francois de Sales Hospital in Haiti.
This portion of the cover story details current living conditions in the poverty-stricken country as well as the significant losses residents have had to overcome during the past weeks. Featured in the story are Dr. Thomas Scalea from the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and Dr. Louiselle LaBlanc who discuss the work that has been done to help heal the Haitian people as well as the work that still needs to be done.
