In late August of 1963, The Beatles filmed a number of contributions to a 30 minute sociological documentary being made by Manchester-based BBC TV producer Don Haworth, aiming to capture the essence and atmosphere of the "Mersey Beat" boom. Because recording an actual concert was very difficult due to the hysteria that accompanies their performances, on August 27th, The Beatles were filmed in a theatre without an audience. The screams you hear near the end were dubbed by the producers of the program.

NOTE: I realize that this performance is already available here on YouTube. My clip is from The Compleat Beatles documentary, released in 1984. I just wanted to "add it to the mix" here.

  • The Beatles are GODs!!!!!!! We need to spread this music around the Middle East like it's a wildfire. Maybe it would curb some of the violence. I'd place my bets on it. All you have to do is just believe!!! It would be like Beatlemania taken to the next level.

  • They sound so good here. No lip syncing and they sound perfect. They were experts on blending their voices.

  • @dancer217 Please, Please Me, From Me to You, She Loves You, I Want to Hold Your Hand. All No. 1 hits in 1963 in England. I Want to Hold your Hand went to No. 1 in the US in January of 1964, about a month before The Beatles 1st came to America.

  • The music world seemed to change forever in the spring of '64. For several months, The Beatles had as many six or seven of the top ten songs on the pop charts at any given time. Sinatra and Elvis had been big, but nothing like this. Not even the Stones at their peak a few years later. Even Motown moved over.
