Jacob Zuma, hero of the Zulu nation, has long been considered South Africa's 'President in Waiting.' But following allegations of corruption and rape, can he still secure the top job?

To his supporters, Jacob Zuma is the victim of a shadowy conspiracy. "Things were done to destroy his standing and prevent him becoming the next President", states Chief Ngobese. Zuma may have been acquitted of rape and corruption but the charges provided fodder for critics. "We saw his bank statement -- bouncing cheques, unpaid accounts. How can he handle the country's economy if he can't handle his personal finances?" questions journalist Redi Direko. However, his popularity remains unaffected. "The people know me. They see the qualities I have."
