The song is about her boyfriend/ex. She's calling him gay even though he doesn't like boys. She's calling him gay because he cares about himself more that he cares about her. He wears more make-up than her, he's more sensitive than her, and he cries more that she does. So instead of using the words YOUR SO LAME, she uses the word YOUR SO GAY. Most people hear this song and think that Katy Perry hates Gays. But she doesn't. That's why she calls him gay. And that's basically what the songs about.

it is kinda offensive, but also controverse. It is hard on the edge to be appropriate .... this guy has all the things that are typical for the gay scene, but that also supports the stereotyp of the fashionable guy. i dont thing gay replaces lame here, it is used as describtion of a lifestyle.
