· Although more Afghan children are going to school than ever before, about half of the country's children are not, United Nations officials said yesterday.

The majority of those not getting an education are girls. Under the Taliban, which ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, girls were banned from schools.

Now they can attend, but an estimated 1.2 million don't, said Catherine Mbengue of the United Nations Children's Fund. What do you have to say about Kuwaiti women? Or Uzbeck women? or Saudi women? Or Tajiik women? All of whom can be raped or murdered by their family members if they don't cover themselves and whose governments are supported by the US? They are also not allowed to learn to read....unlike Iraqi women. Your thoughts?

Why are you so focused on just Iraq? What about every other single middle eastern country? Iraqi woman had a lot more freedom than say woman in Saudi Arabia.

Iraq is the only Muslim country where we have some influence. If they give women more freedom maybe it would spread.

This is a contradiction! Muslims and democracy is like oil and water! There is no point muslims would ever consider democracy to prevail, excelt for electing religous dictators!

@NEWSTOGOD LOL first of all moe never married a 9 year the 9 year old was simply promised to him so that when she gets old enough they can marry plus women aren't treated badly in muslim country s out side of the Arabian gulf like Malaysia and Singapore its only the arabs that treat there women badly not a Muslim thing at all. get your facts straight. also america has alot of influence on Suadi Arabia, U.A.E and Egypt before the protest. i just love it when ppl like you make post like this
