  • The fact of the matter is, that the Excelsior hull is still being used by Starfleet, because it's just a good space frame period. There is a reason that the Excelsior was still in use in the 24th Century. They are good ships... and with updates in interiors, hull materials/plating, computers, sensors, engines, of course weapons, they'd still make formidable warships.

I seem to recall an Excelsior refit taking on the Defiant in one DS9 episode.

  • @terrywest111 Same points I've made a few times =) Glad someone shares them cause not many appear to.

  • @Victorpughenry *year ago, right?

  • @Draknfyre ah thx for explaining...i just started to download the game now :D seems really complicated and interesting.

  • @miloootic

They specifically mention in the game that all "retro" designs only LOOK like an old class. They are completely modern and up-to-date inside. They also have the NX-class Enterprise, Galaxy class, even the TOS Constitution class as available ships.

  • Your tactics need some work...

  • @miloootic Aye but there's nothing stopping me taking a 1960s casing and putting a core i7-2600k with liquid helium cooling overclocked to 8ghz inside it. Lord knows there'd be room :p Seriously though, I know what you mean I'm just saying it's theoretically possible to create something that LOOKS like an excelsior but isn't actually an excelsior inside. If it was merely a refit then yes, it'd be beyond silly. They specifically use the term 'retrofit' in game to imply it's more than a refit.

  • @marajin yes a car is max 5m long,a starships is huge 600m and doesn't function in a limited way as a car,it has so many things to consider, and there is a reason why on the show, excelsior were always displayed as weaker to the newer more advanced classes, even when updated they still lack the stat of the art technology, its like comparing the processing power of the new laptops to the old computers in 1960,even when you ugrade them they are still inferior.

  • @miloootic Heh, well ultimately whether it makes sense or not is irrelevent. They just wanted it because players wanted to fly excelsiors. Thing is, you can make a car that looks like a hundred year old design but has a modern 700 bhp engine in it. The fact that it looks like a 110 year old design is fairly meaningless.
