In Jan 1921, the total sum due 269 bn gold marks was decided by an Inter-Allied Reparations Commission The yearly amount paid was reduced in 1924 and in 1929 the total sum to be paid was reduced by over 50%. Payments ceased when Adolf Hitler's National Socialist German Workers' Party took power in 1933, with about one-eighth of the initial reparations paid.

hah "the weak governments chipped away at the economy" more like the fucking english and french governments imposed unrealistic taxes and war debts on germany. oh the french also had military parades in the streets of germany but, it's cool the taxes covered the parade exspenses
