I WAS DRAGGED-UP IN THE BACK WATERS OF LINCONSHIRE, I NEVER SAW ANOTHER PERSON OF A DIFFERENT RACE TILL WE WENT ON A CHOIR TRIP TO LONDON, THIS BLACK FELLA WAS DRIVING A BUS, WE ALL STARED, WE WERE USED TO ILLUSTRATIONS OF MUD HUTS , SPEARS LITTLE BLACK KIDS, ETC

LOL so many offensive remarks to so many people and thats before the opening credits were finished!
some say it was a shameful time of our comedy history, others say it was innocent fun that was of its time and dont take to heart!
if this was anyone else besides hylda i would say it was boring, but she still has an amusing , innocence about her regardless what is hidden behind the jokes.

This is the series I remember as a child! I'm too young to remember Nearest and Dearest, which always gets talked about, you never hear much about Not on Your Nellie with Nellie Pledge. I remember Jimmy Jewell was in it and the old man who took his teeth out who looks like Jimmy King in Emmerdale.

Such great memories. I'm not remotely one of the PC brigade and there's a lot of rubbish talked about it. But even so, I do wonder whether calling a black police officer a foreigner was ever really THAT funny. Even so, wonderful to see this again. Thanks for posting. :)
The joke about the black policeman was just pointing out the cultural difference between London and the north. No racism was intended... in fact I can imagine a lot of West Indians laughing at it...
