In this video I show you how I hand sew the binding to the back of a quilt, secure mitered corners and tie off stitches and bury them in the quilt.

  • I too love your videos and how you break them down to simple steps. How do you tie the thread knot? Also, why do you sew with a single strand of thread instead of doubling them up? I'm about to finished the binding by hand on 40 hot pads because 2 layers of batting made my machine sewn binding look really crappy!

  • @Tabascopeppers Thanks! Do a quick search for "Hand Sewing Basics" and you'll see my video on how to do the knot. I use a single strand because that's just how I've always done it. With two strands you run the risk of the thread twisting on itself, making it harder to pull through all the layers of fabric.

  • Wonderful tutorial!! Very informative and helpful :) Thank you

  • @Kay258B Glad to help! :o)

  • Hey girl...quick question from a newbie quilter...I'm working on a king-size quilt right now, and the backing part baffles me. I don't know why seams annoy me in the back of a quilt...what is your opinion on using king-size sheets for quilt backing? And what about a jersey knit (whether it's a sheet or plain material from the fabric store?) I love the feel of jersey knit, and just wondering what your experience with it is. Thanks so much, in advance! Have a great day. -Jen

  • @jenjenyoust No problem! I'm glad to help. Happy quilting.

  • I agree with everyone else, your tutuorials are great. I'm a beginner...almost halfway through my first one, which I did completely by hand (my new machine just came in the mail, yay!) You are so detailed in the way you show how to do things and you answer my questions as I'm thinking them...I love your fabrics of choice too, very funky! Nice accent too! Thanks for your help in making my first quilt.

  • @Daughterofsantini Yay! That's great to hear. Happy quilting! :o)

  • I love your tutorials. Thanks so much! We just moved, and I have no speakers on my computer yet. I was able to understand perfectly just by watching your video. Thank you!!
