Cool song!! I always thought this was an REM original.

Sorry Grasshopper, your Uncle brought a lot of joy to a lot of people in the late sixties. The Clique, Fun and Games, Fever Tree, Neil Ford and The Fanatics, The Moving Sidewalks, The 13th Floor Elevators, Bubble Puppy.....Houston was exploding with raw original talent. The Clique were every bit as good as The Kinks or The Hollies.....I don't know why American radio didn't catch on.

Hey! I have the same lava lamp! Do you know when this song came out?
-
I believe REM discovered this song via Gary Zekely, their producer, who was a member of The Clique. I have the LP - it's pretty good and Superman is not the best song on it. Check it out!

I can see why REM wanted to record this tune - so far ahead of it's time...

excellent tune,,Bass player and drums totally diffrent than REM version..This recording was WAY ahead of its time..The harmonies sound like most REM songs..except done much earlier...I love musical influences..Wish Id heard this long ago..feel like i missed something great

My uncle (mother's brother) was the drummer for this band. His name is Jerry Cope. I think they have a web site on myspace. They were recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the Meusem of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur, TX. They weren't a huge success in terms of of some of the other bands that are also in that hall of fame like Z.Z. Top, Janice Joplin, and Stevie Ray Vahn, but they had some great songs and toured to some major venues and played with some great musicians.

Thanks for the info. There seem to be several other groups with that name which makes an internet search frustrating.
