Even though I can't seem to find decent land here, my parents do own some property and I could build a cabin here, although it's not my first choice. So this leads me to a question. I was intending to have a cabin up here in IL for the summer months, and a cabin in AZ for the winter months. Would itï»ż be feasible to homestead in AZ from Sept.-June, and then move up to IL during summer each year? I'm not sure about leaving the homestead in AZ unattended for 3 months.

I would check theï»ż temps for those months in AZ. I lived there and in September it was 115 degrees.

Hey Lamar, just bought your book recently. What a great book! There's so much information here, I can't believe you sell it for so cheap.

I must say avoid Illinois! You won't find land here, as it's unbelievably expensive. No wonder the homesteading phenomena isn't happening here, because it costs 10,000 dollars to buy an acre here. And this is deep SOUTHERN Illinois! Compared to anï»ż acre I found for 500 bucks in Arizona. I have to move out of state so I can even start building this thing.

It's a pain in the butt looking for land as low asï»ż you're saying. Do you by any chance have any specific sites or tips? Thanks a lot.

Check on all the land auction websitesï»ż and Ebay and check for tax sales in the area you are interested in.

I'd bet that 99% of homeowners in the US have a property tax.Might be some rural areas that don't but they won't have services such as police, fire, school, roads, etc. Most states have property tax cuts or exemptions for the elderly, disabled, some Veterans.Notï»ż sure where you live but our property tax is about $4K a year. That doesn't include the additional sewer assessment of $17K we got 15 years ago that gets paid over a 20 year period. You could live on a boat or in an RV maybe to avoid property tax.
