@danyelf you're absolutely right. I love this documentary, but it bothered me that he so bluntly ignored the momento mori, just so that he could squeeze "The Ambassadors" into his interpretative framework.
interesting that he discusses the Holbein without mentioning that it is, for all its decadence, a memento mori. The artist's slanted reference to the failing of all of the acquisition of those possessions that he had depicted, and indeed even the image he had produced.
