This is a song I wrote over the summer of 2010. It seemed like a knew of bunch of couples in a similar situation -- no matter what you did, it was the wrong thing. That was the inspiration for this.
The Crime by Dave Haynie
Please give me a reason, Can't you give me a rhyme
When every thought is treason, Then I'm guilty of the crime
I tried to bear the brunt for you, That unrelenting weight
But circumstance had other plans, Perhaps it's just our fate
I stand accused by my desires, Indicted by my greed
Unable to just let it go, Some part of you I need
Please give me a reason, Can't you give me a rhyme
When every thought is treason, Then I'm guilty of the crime
I can keep a brave face, but I'm tired of all the lies
We'll never run this last race, we'll never claim the prize
I can't begin to embrace, that which the soul denies
The convict stands reflected in your eyes
Please give me a reason, Can't you give me a rhyme
When every thought is treason, Then I'm guilty of the crime
I tried to be a rock for you, A shelter from the rain
Each grain of sand was once a stone, That crumbled from the pain
There is no choice that leaves me whole, Because there's none for you
We have no safe way out this time, There's nothing I can do
Please give me a reason, Can't you give me a rhyme
When every thought is treason, Then I'm guilty of the crime
Please give me a reason, Can't you give me a rhyme
When every act is treason, Then I'm guilty of the crime
