Sculpted detail can be extracted in Mudbox using a variety of methods, but we'll explore the new Vector Displacement Maps as a method of transferring more complex sculpted detail, such as undercuts. http://www.autodesk.com/mudbox-trial

  • hi . he loses a lot of time.

he talks without doing anything for 2 minutes so start the video from 2:05 .

he sculpts the shape he is going to displace for an entire 7 minutes . so fast forward to 9:00 if you dont want to see it.

real action takes place in between 9:00 to 14:00 where he creates a custom vector map he tells how to apply the map to sculpting from 14:00 to 18:31

  • fock zbrush

  • @juan321654 displacement maps directly modify the geometry essentially creating and moving real physical polygons. normal maps are modifying the shading of the model but not the actual geometry.

  • hey, what is the difference between the displacement map and the normal map ??

  • @xXZonaa turns out I'm a noob and wasnt selecting the folder....Hand....Face....Slap.... xD

  • oh man I'm having some trouble I do everything you say yet when I go into the image browser and try to select the folder it simply wont let me the "choose" button is completely shaded out I cant click it.....any ideas?

  • Tnx mate! Learned a lot from here this is just what I needed..

  • Autodesk should make a feature that allows painting/sculpting at the same time. This is a feature Autodesk has been talking about since v2009. This would speed some things up.

  • @TofurkeyMan It would be nice if other autodesk products supported vector displacement.

  • @Heartly07 Funny you should say that, ZBrush is actually one of the few programs left that doesn't support vector displacement maps. They still use standard greyscale.
