what i have lernt from the bloting problem you might find you need so slow down the temp rise around 600 c

You could just advertise it from the 'rare bloating series'

I do like the blue glaze! Is the bloating due to the claybody? What do you think is causing it?

I like the kiln a lot too. I think I will try making it. The bloating is obviously only on the stoneware. I have problem with high-iron stoneware bodies sometimes.

I just fired it again Saturday to test some more clay bodies. I tried that horrible bloating body again with a different firing schedule. It still sucks and I have given up. I found a beautiful clay from a local supplier that looks great with the Simon Leach celadon recipe.

How much fuel did you end up using? I like the kiln a lot. There must be some way to deflect and hold heat on the bottom a little bit more before it goes out the flue. Any recent ideas?
Careful with that garage ceiling...Maybe you should put some high temp insulation up there as well ;)

The fuel has been a disappointment. According to the book this kiln should burn between 10-12 lbs of propane in 6-7 hours. Not sure if it's a typo but I'm burning about 25-30 lbs. I'm sure it's my burners, probably going to get a couple from ward burners.
I do wish my ceiling was higher but the deflector I use seems to work OK. I may hang something up there :)
I should be doing another firing soon to test a couple new claybodies. I'm trying to nail down a white and dark reduction body

Definately the claybody. I'm changing my dark reduction body. It seems that if this body sees any reduction under 2000 degrees it bloats.
