It is true that Quebec receives 8 billions of equalization payments each year. However, Quebec got an 8 million population.

Prince Edward Island, Manitoba, Nova Scoatia and New Brunswick receive all together about 7 billions of equalization payments but their population put together is around 4,5 million people.

So why you do not blame these provinces instead of Quebec?

If you calculate all the federal transfers received by Quebec, this represents 25% of its budget. The average Canadian provinces is 23%. So, Quebec receives only 2% higher than the national average. Alberta 15% Saskatchewan 15% British Columbia 20% Ontario 22% Newfoundland 23% Manitoba 36% Nova Scotia 36% New Brunswick 37% Prince Edward Island 43% Yukon 66% North West Territories 77% Nunavut 93% Reference: ''La province de quêteux: un mythe'' by Claude Picher in La Presse, 2011.

    Paris, July 2006.

Jean Charest makes this statement after having been asked by a tv host if Quebec has the economic means to be independent:

«Oui, nous avons les moyens. Personne ne remet en question la capacité du Québec financièrement.»

Then, former PQ leader André Boisclair will add this:

«Les arguments de peur ne pourront plus être évoqués. C'est aux Québécois de décider. La souveraineté est faisable. Et cela vient du chef des forces fédéralistes au Québec, M. Jean Charest lui-même.»

your the retard because the TVQ doesnt go to Ottawa it goes to the government of quebec .... TVQ = Taxe Vente Quebec.

the government of Canada pays alot of services in Quebec btw , so alot of the alledged 48bil we supposedly send to Ottawa comes back as services.

LOL are you really that retard? You also pay taxes on your incomes, not only for purchases.. The bigger your salary is, the more you'll send to Ottawa. But you're only 20yrs and play video games so probably never had a job yet. And BTW we pay 15% of taxes here in Quebec not 5% cause we have TPS and TVQ. Please know your things before you make any statments.

and id like to see your sources on the 48bil in taxes sent to ottawa because thats obviously false because that would mean that everyone in quebec sends 6000$ in taxes yearly. That would mean that every single quebecers would buy 120k worth of products yearly since the tps is only 5%
