A winter hike up Mt Beacon with some new gear.

used KAHTOOLA Microspikes for traction on the way up.

Re-Hydrated some freeze dried mountain house meal Via boiling water in my new Jetboil backpacking/camping cooking system.

Sunny clear day made for a great hike.

  • Don't you ever go in the tower or is it forbidden?

It would be nice if you're portable, then you're higher with your antenna.

  • @d3474mas73r

The tower is closed currently for repairs/restoration.

  • I have the VX-8GR w/RH519 BNC. For some reason I just don't seem to get the APRS working right. I only had one hit on it, no tracking at all? very strange. I keep checking settings but don't understand. 144.390 is simplex only type setting, I am using the PC program for setting up my HT. My local channels and repeaters work fine, just this APRS setup? I really enjoy your videos, but right now suffering from a tibial plateau fracture after being hit by a car while walking. : ( 73 KC2ZKC

  • @Senegal01 If you havnt already give my video of me setting up Aprs a quick once over.. I cant link it here, but if you look through my videos you will see the VX-8R APRS setup video listed.

Also if your not very close to an APRS tower or digipeater/Igate, your signal might never make it out.

That sucks about the broken bone.. I cant imagine being laid up like that. I find that If im not doing something outside I get more crazy then I already am =) haha

  • With all the neat videos I've seen from Mt. Beacon, I have almost been tempted to try it and see what I can do back toward home on VHF and UHF. But you appear to be in much better shape than I and I notice you huffing and puffing a bit. Maybe I'll just do some hill topping here in the Southern Tier from my Tahoe and see if I can work you instead ;-) Thanks for the fun vids. Tim KB2RMC

  • @UnkleJustin I dont know how in shape I am.. I think I just push myself a bit too hard when im out for an adventure.. other words I might never make it to the top =) haha.

  • Even when you are still you move the camera way too much. The camera is not a search light. Restrain as BEST you can.

  • @KC2UOO Ah! Very good. The SRH519, If I'm not mistaken, that antenna is a dual band, 2m/440 antenna? I have a VX-170 and was wondering if that's a good antenna.
