i would suggest that when you pull out of that parking space you stay in first a little longer and give it more gas then one your going the ideal speed you change from 1st to 2nd etc...

I learned to drive stick in a VW Beetle also. They are soo fun to drive. At least I didn't have to learn in traffic. Haha.
