Well, it looks like we are one step ahead on the right direction. A camera can capture raw light and post-process it for focusing. This is a leap forward for 3d holography, but I guess noone has even considered about it yet.

didn't you use the transistors to power leds from external source?

@greenoakst Hi Greenoakst,
Each of the 9 columns of the cube are the daisy chained positive contacts of the LEDs in each column. Each of the 3 levels of the cube are the connected ground contacts of the LEDs on that level.
The transistors are simply switches for the grounds of each level helping to complete or disconnect the circuit. In this video, the cube is connected to my computer via USB for power.
