@qmig1 No I didn't, my soldering skills aren't that great, but my soldering iron is even worse. The actual tip of the iron doesn't seem to get as hot as the coned area. So there I was tapping on the solder with the tip and nothing was happening, I'd slightly catch part of the side and it would melt. I finally figured out this and thought right, I better stop before I damage the board. Also a solder extractor will help. The replacement I got on ebay was a bit shy about 2or3mm but held the cable.
@qmig1 I find laptops from around 1999- 2000and up are easy to work on, any pre-dating that can be a real pain to work on. As long as they can do a decent solder job it'll be just fine.
I reassembled the laptop about a week after making the video, I didn't get around to replacing the damaged power jack. Lost the rubber stub that was under the monitor area like but that happend because my cat jumped up and ran right over it. :P never found where it went.
