One of the members on mr2oc.co.uk was asking if anyone had a video demonstrating the A'PEXi intake... so I went and made one!

The car: 1998 UK spec MR2 TBar NA in Cosmos Blue with A'PEXi Power Intake (only performance mod)
The road: M5 between junctions 17 and 18.

Please excuse the creaking of my leather seat against the firewall - if you're 6'4" you're just happy to find a seating position that works!

NB: This video was made on the public road so both the speed limit and highway code were observed at all times, as can be seen when my speedometer is in view. The camera was securely mounted in the car and only operated with a single button to start and stop recording.

  • Is this a sw20 ?

  • @daturk1 The car was (is) a 1998 model, so yes it's an SW20. It's actually up for sale again at the moment, two owners down the line

  • Hey Mark impressed how you are putting power down mid corner just wondering what tyres your running cos my A022's on my rev3 would of lit up on those wet roads! cheers

  • @clarky5555 Uniroyal Rainsport 2s mate... the road may have been damp but I wasn't anywhere near the edge of their grip. Highly recommended mate :)

  • Acis opens up at 4k which is why u hear a lift noise of the engine as it peak torque is above that allow the intake will amplify it alot.

  • sounds awesome

  • Thanks fella, something to add to the shopping list then. Loving the sound of that Apexi ;)

  • Sounds pretty good mate, i have just fitted a Power Enterprises intake system on my g-ltd, I get more of a v-tec high pitched sound after 6000 RPM.

  • Ah, the 3sge thats why it sounds a lot different then mine. I've heard the 5sfe has low compression so it's not as tuneable like you're saying. Mine already has Tein coilovers and dif struts so the next thing 4 me is to go for more power then the 140 or so I have now with the 5sfe. I want to keep the driveability so I won't bother stripping anything to reduce weight, just want some boost.

  • @TheOmegaeyes If you just want power then get the 3s-gte in there. I don't know if the 5s-fe is very tunable, but in the UK very few people do much to the 3s-ge (like in this car) as it's far too much effort for too little gain. However if you want a purely driving car, you could do alot worse than stripping all the weight out of an NA and then tightening up the handling...
