Court House Teen Dies in Fatal Crash

BURLEIGH — Middle Township police have identified the teen killed in a crash here as Kevin Lamb, of Court House.

Police reported that a fatality occurred in a two-vehicle crash on Shunpike Road just south of the intersection of Oyster Road Monday, Dec. 28 shortly after noon.

Court House firefighters were summoned for an entrapped victim, and a medevac helicopter was ordered to fly.

According to a police release, investigation by officers at the scene revealed that the car driven by the 17-year-old Lamb, who was traveling south on Shunpike Road, when it crossed over the center line, and struck a second vehicle traveling northbound on Shunpike Road, driven by Fred Hack Jr, 57, of Burleigh. Heavy damage was visible on both vehicles — a red two-door car and a dark-colored SUV.

Lamb was killed on impact, police said. The second driver was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center for evaluation, but was conscious and alert at the scene.

Shunpike in this section of Burleigh is a heavily tree-lined road and the sun glared through the trees just after the time of the accident. Traffic was detoured from the area as the accident investigation took place. Fire police were called to help direct traffic at Shunpike and Indian Trail as well as Oyster Road.

This crash remains under investigation by members of the Cape May County Fatal Crash Team, and the Middle Township Police Department. Middle Township Patrolman Jason Sweitzer is the investigating officer, police said
