Hai ying, I have heard this red paste is named 朱砂 (zhūshā) in chinese but this paste is based of cinnabar (硃砂) and the cinnabar is a mineral based of mecury, so toxic, and they ask to do not swallow

I would not have thought about this matter if not reading your point. I have just checked online, and as far as the information I got, YES. 朱砂 is toxic.
