New Torah-Scroll Celebration in Jamaica

Our community, The United Congregation of Israelites in Kingston Jamaica, celebrated the arrival of a new Sefer-Torah. The Torah was carried by Rabbi Yitzhak Kimchi all the way from Jerusalem. They were met at the Tinson Pen airport in Kingston.
The Rabbi and the Torah preceded the motorcade through the city to the Jewish Heritage Centre in Kingston. The Torah was then taken into the Synagogue "Shaare Shalom".
Rabbi Yitzhak Kimchi completed the writing of the Torah. Then the Sefrei- Torah were taken out of the Ark and were paraded in a semi circle to welcome the new Torah.
The congregation exploded in joy with dancing and clapping of hands.
This was followed by a service of thanksgiving.

I knew a Jewish family in England whose father was from Kingston. You wouldn't know until he spoke!

I find that Jews from India, Jamaica, Cuba, Ireland, or Brazil who settle in the USA or Britain have to "chose." They either become just Jewish or part of their country's diasporah. If you want to be accepted into the Jewish community, you can't be both.

@kwacou Just to note--Azan is a Lebanese, not Jewish, name. But other names here in Ja that are Jewish: DaCosta, Delgado, Mendez, Vaz, DeMercado, Newman, Gutzman, Soares, Lindo, Levy, DaSilva, Brimo, Asher, Melhado, Rodriguez, to list a few.
