Question 1:

drybones54321 asked: One of my biggest problems with my songs is people say they are too repetitive. Can you please make a tutorial on how to prevent songs from being repetitive?
Answer: That's a pretty broad question, but I'm gonna try to answer it on here. It's pretty simple actually. You don't want to have your melody overlaying the whole song as you're playing it. watch?v=tUcrwpda19g This is one of the first songs I've ever made. You can hear I play the melody throughout almost the entire song. it gets boring after a while. but in my newer songs what you hear. is i start with a soft chord progression and change melodies constantly. I do a buildup. then I get to the main melody. but then I will go back and soften up and do another buildup, bigger. then do the melody again, and build up into a final ending of the song. you may have had the term "drop" used in dubstep a few times, well it's not just in dubstep, it's in trance as well. trance, techno, house, any genre. What it is is a buildup and your song will become more powerful as if goes, and then get to a drop. I don't think that i'll be able to do this tutorial next week. but maybe in a few weeks i can go more in depth with it. :)
Question 2
Category: Advanced
TheOfficialNeonSky asked: Any tips for mixing and mastering?
Answer: Okay this is a pretty broad question, but i'm gonna try to answer it as best I can. for mixing, never raise volumes. always lower them, same goes for EQ. If you want to raise a volume use the fruity limiter in the track (only do this if you actually do have to raise it a LOT to get it heard in the track)
Make sure to EQ Everything***, and and careful with how you EQ it. if you have a bass going on, then cut off some of the lows on some of the higher things so it stands out more. simple as that. and if you have high violins and pianos and stuff going on in the background, cut them off wherever they aren't making any noise.
remember, always decrease, never increase. automate everything you can that you think needs to or will need to be changed during the song. do NOT use fruity limiter in the track. if anything, I usually make a sub mix to the master and lower it a little bit. xD
also, if you have more than one speaker system. Test it on both systems to see if it sounds good on both. like, I have a system without a sub bass and one with. i make the song with sub bass, then I go to the system without to see if it still sounds good. then I listen to it in headphones. and every time I make a change, i test it in all three to make sure it sounds nice.
Those are the basic tips, if you need anything more just leave a comment. :)
Could you tell me how you make the "shadow" of the Base Piano Roll appearing in the Melody P Roll
MrJoBilly 1 month ago
@MrJoBilly Ah, Those are called ghosted notes. it basically enables different insturments in the same pattern to be viewed simultaniously :)
go into a piano roll on an Insturment, go into the top left hand corner of the piano roll and there should be a little arrow. click on it, go to helpers, and enable ghosted notes (and whatever else you feel you could use)
WALLA, Enabled. :)

I hear the term "mastering" quite a bit. Could you elaborate on this a bit? Hope you can do tutorials in the future about filters. They look interesting.
technobulldog 1 month ago
@technobulldog Well, Wontonproductions went into it, but basically it's the final process where you just fix up any final errors in your track and make it sound perfect. a lot of people get mixing and mastering confused. and I'm gonna go into detail about filters probably next tutorial. as well as try to get the ideas of automation hammered into noobies brains, it's helpful. LOL.

@Agatio230 Haha, Thank you so much. Glad you found it helpful. I think my tutorials are probably gonna help logic users too, cause i'm going to try to explain a little bit about my knowledge in music theory as well. Hopefully. LOL.
