After many months, I have finally (with assistance from my engineering-minded father) managed to set up my Stuart Score and 504 boiler (both bought from eBay) to run. In this first test steaming, we find that the engine and boiler work, but that there are a number of leaks and other issues to fix.

  • What an excellent piece of film! Heat, water and mechanics in harmony.

  • I'm glad that you like it! Do have a look at the later videos, which show my progression on the model.

  • What company made the boiler?

  • the yellow flame is because you are using butane you may be able to minimise the yellow but the flame will amways have a yellow tip

  • Magnificent! The engine will run in well, the glands will leak less with their bedding in, as you know. The details will all sort in time. It is a strikingly beautiful engine. This is such a magnificent plant, James. You've done great work here. Elegant indeed! Yes, yellow means more air is wanted. Is the boiler a fire tube type? It looks by the burner to be a pot boiler? You and your dad have made my day too! I'm so happy to see this first running so soon after the video's posting. Thanks!
