I edited this trailer back in 1997 in NYC, and am amazed to see over 200K views.

Milestone's only demand (they were the U.S. distributor) was that there could be no Japanese dialog – only action, and beautiful, largely silent, moments.

I used Joe Hisaishi's amazing soundtrack for the trailer. It starts with "Painters" (track 6), and then crossfades to "HANA-BI" (track 11) at the :40 mark.

I'd like to think that but if you compare Japanese movies to either Korean or Chinese / Hong Kong movies, it's totally different in my book.

I think Oriental cinema is driven by impact and influence rather than a full conversation. They let the entire scene do the talking, which is why there isn't much camera use and it always looks really crisp and minimalistically effective.

    It's not "Hana-Bi" (track 11), it's "Ever Love" (track 5) starting from 0:38.

But you've done a great job anyway!
