  • In a big game, I want Reggie starting in right field. Heck, maybe for any game.

  • jeffbunnell, You're right on all of it, man. Sounds like you were as big of a Reggie fan as I was. The guy just really inspired me, my love for the game, and my play on the field. I remember watching the game during the '77 World Series as a kid. He'd already knocked out two of his three homeruns, and when he came to the plate I remember my dad saying, "If he hits another one, that place is going to go nuts". Well, as we all know, he did. I believe it was to straight away center. Memories.

  • .263 Career Average and Inconsistent fielding leave much to be desired, but his 563 Career Homers are, 20 years after his retirement, 11th all time. He truly does remind people of America's "Glory Days".

  • He was never traded by the Yanks. Steinbrenner did not resign him after the '81 season. Gene Autry knew a good thing when he saw it and signed the 35 yr old Jackson to a 5 year deal. (The Braves and Orioles wanted him too...)

But George says to this day that "letting Reggie go was the biggest mistake I made."

On a personal note, I love him too. Saw his last homer he ever hit in Oakland, #562. He hit 563 on the 20th anniversay of his first ever home run, in the same stadium (!) in Anaheim.

  • Loved the guy. Walked the walk and talk.

Worse move ever was when the Yankees traded him
