Well... with a bit of work, a Dremel and a grinding bit could get you most of the way there. The challenge is - when you do get close, how do you make the face of the cutters flat - even remotely flat - without a larg(er) flat grinding wheel?

Bernie, is there anywhere on the net that follows making fret slotting templates from start to finish that you know of? I have the sled already made for my dedicated circular saw and the StewMac blade. I have the basics of the idea down, and have acrylic pieces squared and cut already, but am finding the rest of the process a bit sketchy. Thanks for any help.

Very good way of obtaining a cheap pair of flush cutters, your explanation on the end cutters scratching (part 1) was excellent. If you use unmodified cutters to severe the fretwire then the modified cutters to trim flush, the thinner edge of the modified cutters will last longer. Also professional electronics tools include flush cutters, but the easily obtainable type are really for fine wire.  Sometimes useful for trimming back coil wire after soldering to tags, for safety in handling.

Here I think you need to put the finger behind the jaws cause your using the side of the wheel and the finger is out in the open to provide adequate pressure to prevent your flat from chattering. Great videos!

thanks for this - I have made myself a couple of pairs of these cutters and they really are excellent.

My tip is use a knackered old pair for the first attempt !!
