All his friends would go to movies on Friday nights

Cast its shadows on their bodies that danced
And he noticed that the lady had fallen asleep
So he slipped on his pants

Then he put the pencil down
Said that he was gonna leave the lady
On the other side of town

As he closed the gate behind him
The tears welled up in her eyes
With the note in her hand at the window
She was sadly waving good-bye
Well he never knew how much that he loved her
And the thought never did occur
The someday he'd be somewhere far away
And still be thinking of her

我也是約三十年前在軍中廣播電台徐凡的節目聽到David Castle的原唱，立即被其旋律與歌聲所感動，但是當時未能聽­清楚原唱者的名字。從電台轉錄的雜音處處的錄音帶版本跟隨我二十­幾年。後來聽到齊豫的翻唱CD版本，也是非常動聽，只是讓我更想­知道原唱是谁，方便我去找他的CD，可惜齊豫的CD提供的歌詞對­作者卻隻字未提。感謝網路，我終於在去年知道這首歌的原唱是Da­vid Castle；感謝youtube，終於再次聽到完整的原唱本。­真懷念徐凡及其節目，她讓我愛上搖滾樂，也讓我認識了少數可以讓­我一聽再聽的抒情歌曲(Ballad)。

Both versions are great... of course David Castle is fantastic... but I personally love the way Chyi Yu tells a story... I'm Costa Rican and the first time I heard this song was from a Malaysian friend... Wore the old tape out...

I'm not sure if I'm the only one here who loves this version of this song a lot more than the original version .. The whole arrangement has a beautiful afternoon-tea quality to it , the female singer took her time to tell the story in a slow-brew intimate style - the piano interim adds an exquisite touch to the poetic feel of this lovely song.. exquisite ..
