After considering Ethos problem with his spawner pad lighting/water, I worked out an alternative design with some nice results.

This stackable design applies the lava/water features , but uses larger pads. The finished design:
- increases space efficiency (ratio of spawnable blocks/surface area used)
- turns on/off spawns using a single lava+piston (per pad)
- turns on/off spider spawning using only 2 waters/pistons (per pad)

Please let me know what you think, or if you see any possible improvements. Thanks!

I hope you enjoy!

  • Is there a tutorial or explanation on why that water will stop spider spawns?

  • @Rambleberry they need a 3x3 area (or 3x2 if next to a glass wall - glitch?) to spawn... so if you put slabs or water, etc, they wont be able to spawn there.

  • Why doesn't this show up in my sub box???

  • @PureOptic I don't know - It seems sub notifications are messed up w/ youtube. The best way to be notified is the check the "Also email me for each new upload" box in the subscribe area.

  • @PureOptic i don't know. i don't get a lot of my sub emails either. :(

  • Looks good dude. My only concern is that it may take the mobs a long time to walk off the pad into the water canals. Making it bigger like that definitely increases the spawning area though. You did good on the spider option and lighting system as well.

  • @Miniman0166 I agree, but he is the godfather of minecraft innovation though. :)

  • @MrJETTURBO If you have multiple spawnpad levels, the damage will be different for mobs that fall from each level. And different mobs have more/less damage ability (like endermen and zombies in some cases). Heart Damage = (# of fall blocks - 3) / 2. You need to test out different heights based on your own spawner. Hope that helps.

  • @monkeyfarm hey monkey, i wanna make a xp spawn and i don't know how many blocks must the monsters dropp for them to have 0,5 hearts left or 1 hit kill???

  • @Liamtft LOL, I actually recorded that really early one morning, so just tired. :)

  • I love this, but you sound so depressed! I am subbed and you usually sound better than this.

  • @stefiboy1999 As of Minecraft official release 1.0.0, mobs stand still unless you're in the general area... So they won't walk off the edge much unless you're nearby. Try that. You could also add signs along the edges of the spawner pads if you dont already have them.
